Day 7 - Different things

Today was made up of a lot of  little different things,  hard to put one category  on it...

Let's start with last night.

The whole Shannon family and myself went to 7pm mass followed by dinner at the Atlantic. At last I was back in my spiritual home (The Atlantic- in case you think I'm being holy)!!! 😂

The Church in Lahinch  is undergoing big changes...

When I was here last year,  I used to pop into their morning mass, because I was living next door to the Church. Fr Willie was the parish priest and Fr Des was the curate. Neither were young men!!

Fr Willie retired soon after my visit (note - not caused by me!!) Fr Des  took on the combined parish of Ennistymon  and Lahinch. He has also recently  retired, as his health has been a problem  for him.  Now the Diocese is struggling to fill their spots. They are getting a priest called Fr Robert who is going to have to take charge of 5 parishes which are rather spread out...

So from having daily mass in the parish, it is now down to a weekend mass every 2nd week. Last night was Lahinch,  next week mass will be in Ennistymon.  Signs of the times I guess!!!

Anyway the best part of the evening was our dinner together!!

It was lovely to be back and I was given a very warm welcome!!

I've always loved the dinners here and last night was no exception!! Half size serve of roast Turkey and ham and real vegies!!

Then to top it off  and to celebrate the hawks win,  I had an Irish Coffee!!

Moira and Marie

So, that was last night!

Then today was a good sleep in followed by coffee at Val's

It was a bit wet and windy on my walk along the beach...

The storm is approaching

While I was down the street,  Marie rang and asked if I would like to go on the Burren Ramble?? It was a 5km walk through The Burren... I wasn't sure  I could make it for 5 km,  and it was a very uneven surface. A bit beyond my capabilities!!! So she was going anyway and was taking Daisy the dog.  So we agreed to meet at Kilfenora instead, when it was over.

Kilfenora is famous for its crosses and when Marie arrived we had a look at them.

Here's a small selection..

In case any of you have not heard this song,  it's called "Clare, my heart my home " and it mentions Kilfenora of the crosses...standing tall as sentinels of faith..

There was also a holy well there dedicated to St Fachnan... be careful how you say that!!!

So, for a day that was very uncertain at the start,  quite a lot was accomplished!!

And the drive to and from Kilfenora was very short,  but very beautiful... it showcased  the Irish country side in all it's glory!
