Day 1 Journey by plane

 Day 1 Journey by plane

Well... here we all are again!

Wattle is wandering to Ireland yet again.  I have to admit it's my favourite place for an international  holiday.

I'm writing this on the plane,  as we are about 2 hours out of Dubai.
I'm saying "we" because  this time I'm accompanied  by my friend  Bernadette, who is going to visit her brother in Gorey... about 1 hour and a half south of Dublin.
Its been lovely having some company getting to the airport and on to the plane.

Perth just after take off.

We had a very early start this morning,  and were picked up at 3am, in preparation  for a 6am flight on Emirates. After we arrived in Dubai, we had a two hour break before flying into Dublin.

The service on Emirates is always good and this flight is no exception.  The hosties look after you really well and nothing is too much trouble.

The trip from Perth to Dubai is approx 11 hours,  but I think we are getting in early today which is good when you only have a short break.  Then the next flight to Dublin is about 8 hours.

The time went quite quickly as I watched a few shows…  the film “A complete unknown” about Bob Dylan… then I had downloaded a series from Netflix called Hostage, which had 5 episodes and was a perfect way to fill in time in a long journey.

As I write this we are currently  over Hungary and there are some magnificent  cloud formations..

Clouds over Hungary

Fortunately we are not flying through them,  just around them and they're beautiful to look at.

We're about 2 hours out of Dublin and I won't be sorry to hit the hay tonight.  Its been a very long day.  By the time we get to our hotel at Dublin airport,  it will be the equivalent  of 4am, Perth time. Hence me writing as much of the blog as I can now!

Hopefully there will be more to report as the week progresses.

Tomorrow I am picking up the hire car,  then dropping Bern in Gorey and staying the night there. Then I will progress across Ireland to my home county... County Clare, from whence my great grandfather  emigrated.

Poor Bern had a bit of an interesting  day... first of all she managed to break the handle on the plane toilet door twice!!! Thank God for the lovely young steward who repaired it each time.  Then,  when we went to collect her luggage, she had a bit of trouble recognising her case...and it went around about 6 times before I actually was able to convince her that it really was her case!!
(BTW. she gave me permission to write about it in the blog!!)

So we arrived to the hotel at Dublin airport hotel about 9 pm Irish time... so, as mentioned above,  it was probably  about 4am Perth time... it's been a big day!!!

But I did one last thing to celebrate being back in Ireland ... I had my first half pint of Smithwicks!!!

Aaah... that's better!!!

So we thank God for a safe journey, and look forward to a big sleep tonight.

Welcome back to Ireland!!! 🇮🇪☘️

    1. Love the Smithwicks brew. Its a beer - a red ale. I've tried very hard to like Guinness, but the taste does nothing for me! But a Smithwicks now... aaah! Can't get then I'm Oz sadly!
