Day 14 A wet and windy day.

Not sure if I will go very far today, as it's pretty wild out there at the moment.  The wind is whistling in off the ocean and bringing squalls of rain with it..

Marie and Patrick walked /ran in the Lahinch Half Marathon this morning. They came home soaked and freezing.

I was more sensible and stayed home!!! 😃

But let me go back to last night, as we had a lovely night out at the Atlantic. Food was delicious  as usual and the company  outstanding! Ellen is on her L plates and she drove us there and back.  And she did very well!

Waiting for a table at the Atlantic

We decided to have an Irish Coffee at home afterwards, feet up and very enjoyable.

Irish Coffee time.

Yesterday I took a few pics of Marie and Pat's  house and surrounds.

One of the distinguishing features of houses in the regions is their intense loyalty  to the their County and their various football teams.  I could fit in nicely in this environment!! And the way they display this is through flags. At the moment,  the flags in Lahinch are black and white (sadly) as that is the colours of the Ennistymon GAA football team.  One of their teams won yesterday and narrowly  avoided relegation!

Pat and Patrick went along to watch the match.

Flying the Ennistymon flag.

The other flag that is very popular is the County Clare  flag that bears the same colours as the West Coast  Eagles in Perth... blue and saffron.

County Clare Flag

Last year when County Clare won the All Ireland Hurling championship, there were flags all over the place,  on nearly every house front.

The gang have gone off again just now to watch the Ennistymon senior team play... I think they said in Corofin. However Marie is staying home and recovering from the big walk this morning!!!

As for me,  I popped down the street and had lunch at the Atlantic again.  This time I chose the vegetable soup with brown bread.

It was an ideal lunch for a day like this.  I love their brown bread.. it's very filling too.
Had a bit if a walk along the beach,  but the wind nearly blew me away again.

Wild Atlantic

Wild Atlantic - tide is in.

Then I drove over to Ennistymon to pick up a few food things.  I was going to have a coffee over there,  but it's Sunday arvo and I couldn't find anything open.  Also, the parking there is a bit of an issue. This hire car that I'm driving is a bit bigger than my lovely little  Toyota Corolla at home,  and it often takes me a few goes to get in and out of parking spots. And the roads are quite narrow,  so often you have to rely on people's goodness to let you in and out.  However,  I have to admit, on the whole,  people are quite generous in this way.

Anyway, I did find a spot and had a wander down to the Cascades waterfall,  which I think would nearly equal Niagra Falls atm!!!  Well, almost!!! But the water was thundering down.. no wonder it's called the Cascades!!

The Cascades at Ennistymon

I even got a bit wet from the spray…

So that was today.. not very eventful, but still another another  day to add to Wattle's Wanderings,

  1. Wow the Cascades look like a raging torrent. We have had so much rain that for the last few weeks that the park where I walk the dogs to the track at the back of Rossmoyne SHS is so wet that there is a bit of a swimming pool which Sammy loves splashing around in, Minnie not so much. Yesterday was so wild that things were flying all over the place and we were getting torrential downpours on and off all day, you’d never think this was Perth, especially in Spring.

    That soup looks very inviting.

Love the place your family lives in, so pretty.

    Take care, half way there…

    1. Yes.. half way mark. It's going so quickly. Sounds like Perth weather is the same as here. Weird, isn't it??

    2. Certainly is but the naysayers say there is no such thing as climate change…

    1. Yes the Cascades were belting down. The spray was making me wet. They're a beautiful site.

  3. Marie's house is lovely with a beautiful outlook - just the place to sit and watch the wild weather. It was pretty wild weather in the SW yesterday too - wind gusts up to 100km accompanied by lots of rain.
The casades are prettu spectacular xx

  4. Their Conservatory is the perfect place to watch the weather arrive. It has glass windows all round and the beautiful green hills in the background. I love sitting in there.
